Tech Tip

Important! Read This Before You Install Mastercam X3!

If you are planning to install Mastercam X3 side by side with a previous version of Mastercam X, you must do the following to avoid data corruption:

1.  Back up your customized files to a separate folder. This includes machine and control definitions.

2.  If you make use of the migration utility that is part of the installation program, be aware that the utility migrates files only from the installation folder you specify during the installation, and only from the folders listed in the Installation Guide. If you have files stored in other locations, they will not be migrated. This means that when you use or update them and are prompted to convert them (as when you open an MCX file that uses a machine definition stored in a non-standard location), pay attention to the full file path when converting files, and always rename the original file.

3.  The simplest way to avoid this problem is to use the File, Import Directory function to import and convert the entire directory rather than converting files "on the fly." Do this before you start using Mastercam X3.

4.  In addition, if you are using Machine Definition Manage List function (Machine Type, Manage list menu bar) to manage your machine definitions, the paths of these machine definitions are "hard-coded." Use the following procedure to update them:

a. Click Machine Type, Manage list

b. Remove the machines currently listed in the Menu items list:

c. Add the machines you want to use from the appropriate folders:

Mastercam Training

We provide state-of-the-art training on the Mastercam system and teach you how to quickly apply Mastercam skills on the job. It is particularly useful for programmers and machinists. For experienced Mastercam users, refresher classes can bring awareness to newly released Mastercam features, and provide greater utilization of your Mastercam system.

Hands on Mastercam training classes at CAD/CAM Solutions are offered on a monthly basis to a limited class size to maximize the amount of material covered and to individualize student’s needs.  We use a projection system so every one in the class can see and follow along with the instructor.

Registration: Please call 770-982-3400 for registration.

Agenda: Arrive at 8:00 am to meet the instructor over coffee and settle in. Class begins promptly at 8:30am . Each class consists of practical exercises and projects.
